New Exhibit in Newton City Hall

The Newton Open Studios' exhibit is up and ready to be viewed!
There is a revolving show in Mayor Setti Warren's office in Newton City Hall. I'm proud to be one of the artists. When you're in Newton just stop by and view the show! There is always art on the walls because Mayor Warren is a great supporter of Newton artists. I understand that he loves us having our art gracing his office walls and adjacent hallway.

This exhibit presents new work of the artists. I did this Magnolia painting in summer 2013 from photographs I took of magnolia trees. Where? In the parking lot of my dentist's office.  I saw a gorgeous magnolia in bloom and knew I had to paint it.

I wonder if my dentist knows that there is a spring 'bonus' in the parking lot!

Just think, spring isn't far away...hmm the weather forecast for New England is snow for this weekend. Well, we can look forward to longer days beginning December 21st.

Happy Spring Thoughts, for now.

A Success! Newton Open Studios

Hello!

I wanted to thank anyone who reads my blog, especially if you visited me during Newton Open Studios exhibit this past weekend. This show was juried so I was really excited to have the opportunity to exhibit and sell my work.

I think Newton Open Studios' new venue, Newton City Hall, was very successful. I had a good show and enjoyed many good art conversations with folks who were fascinated by the way I paint 'backgrounds'. Several people asked if I taught watercolor classes. I don't right now, but you all will be the first to know (well, maybe not the first) if and when I do!

Here's the watercolor I currently have in Mayor Setti Warren's office in Newton City Hall. The exhibit there now is called 'Movement'. If you have a chance, stop by City Hall in Newton on Commonwealth Avenue and Homer Street and pop into the Mayor's office. Second floor.

It's been a pleasure to have exhibited there throughout this whole year. Each exhibit has a different theme. It's interesting to see how each Newton artist interprets the theme.

Till the next exhibit...stay tuned!

Anita

Reception at Putterham Grille

Hello to all,

And welcome to fall! At least in the mornings and evenings. It's 6 PM now as I write this and the temperature today was warm and balmy. But right now it's very fall-like. OK - enough of the weather report.

I have a great show up at the Putterham Grille restaurant. I have mentioned this before, but this time the show is up! It's an exhibit of my watercolor and pastel giclee prints - signed, limited editions. Looks great!

So come see me and other friendly people and my work - and have a glass of wine and some hors d'oeuvres. And maybe even dinner at the Grille. A really lovely restaurant. Address: 1012 W. Roxbury Parkway, Chestnut Hill, MA Thursday 9/19/13 at 6:30-8 PM.

Hope to see you there!

Reception for Marblehead Arts Association Exhibit

Dear friends,

I wanted to invite you to the Artist Opening Reception for my watercolor exhibit at the Marblehead Arts Association. I have 6 original watercolors on the Meet The Artist Wall.  The Reception is at The Marblehead Arts Association, 8 Hooper Street,  Marblehead (Tel: (781) 631 2608) on Sunday September 8 from 2-4 PM. Google the directions which are easy - the trip is essentially driving up 1A N.

I used beautiful handmade paper, a white mat and cherry frame for Orchid Sculpture, below. This orchid 'called' me to paint it because the leaves are so sculptural.

There are 4 other artists showing their work as well. There will be refreshments served.

Hope to see you on the 8th.

Best, Anita

My New Pastel "Remembrance"

Hello,

I'm so proud of this pastel painting, I wanted to share!! It's hanging in my home in Newton, MA - it's available as a giclee print only because I want to keep the original. But the giclee is printed beautifully. It looks like velvet!

I was going to submit it to the next Concord Art Association's juried show, but will have to choose another watercolor or pastel!

Hope you like it!

Newton MA Mayor's Exhibition

I wanted to let everyone know there's a wonderful exhibition through Newton Open Studios currently on exhibition. It's called "Stay Cool" and it's in Boston City Hall in Mayor Setti Warren's office and through the halls of the area near his office. Here's one of my watercolor paintings in the show. There are many interesting works by several artists.

Go to 1000 Commonwealth Avenue, 2nd floor. The show will be up through August.

And enjoy!!

"Liquid Scapes" Show

Hello Everyone,

The next exhibit at Arts League of Lowell is "Liquid Scapes" and will start on August 30 and go till September 29. The address is 307 Market Street, Lowell. The show promises to be an interesting one, with many interpretations of water.

My two paintings in the show are very different from each other. One is a very 'dreamy' painting called Fog:

And the other is a dramatic painting of the moon with Venus over the ocean:

I painted both while looking at the water at very different times and places. Fog was painted in New England and Moon with Venus (and it IS the moon with Venus) was painted during the night while I was vacationing in Captiva, Florida. Both from very real life!!

If there's a reception for this show, I will let you know.

Meanwhile, take advantage of the many "water sources" or beaches we have around the Boston New England area while summer lasts!

My New Paintings and "Fabrication of Imagination"

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to bring you up you up to date about my paintings. Magnolia is a new watercolor painted on handmade paper. It's currently exhibited with Vintage Tea   (pastel) in the Arts League of Lowell,
307 Market Street, Lowell MA. I have several paintings, giclee prints and cards in this art coop.

The building, which houses this gallery/coop, is one of many interesting old beautiful brick mill buildings in Lowell.

In the 1800's Lowell MA was a center for the textile industry, and now many art galleries and studios are in residence in these interesting, large windowed, light buildings.

The exhibit there now is a fabulous juried show called "The Fabrication of Imagination" and is a must see! The Reception is Friday, August 9, from 4-6. Here is one piece among many diverse works designed with fabric. You won't be disappointed going to the gallery!

So go on Friday if you can - or any other day: Wed.-Sat. 12-6, Sun 12-4. You'll see my work  and the new show. Happy viewing!

Arsenal Center for the Arts Show

My watercolor Golden Blooms is looking for a new home. Currently it resides in the Arsenal Center for the Arts Members' Show, 321 Arsenal Street in Watertown.

Come to the show, and look for Golden blooms - it'll be among all the other great art at this show.  Maybe it'll be just the Springtime you need all year round! The show will be up until August 23.

Meanwhile, have a 'cool' summer.

Summer Shows

Hello to my blog readers!!

Hope you had a wonderful 4th. I did. Friends and I were on a Boston tour boat on the Charles for the 4th - what an experience! Do it next year if you can.

On to my art progress! I want to share a new painting with you - as you might suspect, these are from my garden. I call it Summer's Spectacle and it will be on my site Gallery shortly.

I will be in several shows this summer. I'll have one painting in each of two Cambridge Art Association Shows - this one below in the Kathryn Schultz Gallery - 25 Lowell Ave Cambridge.

And this one below in the Scenes of Summer Show in the University Place Gallery - 124 Mt. Auburn Street. Both galleries are essentially down the street from each other near the Mt. Auburn Hospital. In The Scenes of Summer show all paintings are under $500.00.

I did this from fabulous hibiscus I saw in Hawaii in March.

I hope you make the time this summer to see these shows in Cambridge. The Cambridge Art Association juries artists' work so there are usually some really interesting and high quality pieces to see.

Here's hoping that summer lasts and lasts - and I'll keep painting, 'pastelling', and drawing beautiful things that grow.

I will have paintings in two shows in July - August. Both are through the Cambridge Art Association.

Happy Fourth! Flowers and Fruit and Fireworks

Hello!

Enjoying our 'real' summer? A little hot, but me? I'd rather that and sunshine than winter. No flowers in my garden in the winter.

I'm still showing at UFORGE Gallery in Jamaica Plain - until July 14.

I have two Giclees - archival signed prints - in UFORGE's new show called 'Potluck'. All about food, kitchen, eating. Who doesn't like eating!

Reception is July 11th from 6-8 - 767 Centre Street in Jamaica Plain.

Come see my originals in the Revolver solo show, and get a 'two-fer' and see my signed giclees too.

Have a spectacular Fourth.

Hope your life is filled with flowers and fireworks!

Award for my Watercolor!

Hello to all

The Marblehead Arts Association is located in a beautiful old mansion in the center of town - 8 Hooper Street.

Right now there's a members' show throughout the mansion which is made up of many different galleries - each in a different space in the mansion.

I received a judges award for my original watercolor Lace Cap Hydrangea. There were only three judges awards given out!  The show will be on exhibit until July 14.

Marblehead, especially in the summer, is a beautiful town to visit. Check out the show - a lot of wonderful pieces on exhibit. And walk around the cobbled streets of the town. Look at the architecture - the old, wonderful houses. Have lunch! Have fun!

By the way, I have made signed, archival, limited edition giclee prints of many of my original watercolors, including Lace Cape Hydrangea. If you're interested in any particular painting or giclee, just go to the contact page and write me.

Hope you're enjoying the sun, your gardens, and this wonderful season.

My Reception at UFORGE Gallery

Hi,

I wanted to thank everyone who came to my reception at UFORGE Gallery on Friday evening the 14th June. It was a fun event and fun to see everyone.

My show will be up at the "Revolver" walls in the back of the gallery until July 14 - so if you didn't catch it at the reception, take a ride to JP, 767 Centre Street, in the center of town.

Check out their website - there's a blog on it about me and my show called "Nature's Portraits". Here's a sample painting...

called Picasso Calla Lilies, painted on handmade paper.
Actually all of my watercolors in the show are painted on handmade paper.

Since you're already on my site, take a look at my Artist Statement - my feelings about Nature and why I paint flowers!!

Have a flower - filled summer of beauty and color.

Best, Anita

Hope to see you at one of these fun events.
Enjoy the color of summer!

Yay for Spring! Yay for Flowers to Paint!

I have been busy painting wonderful flowers - in Hawaii, orchids and hibiscus and birds of paradise. I just finished a Picasso Calla Lily painting. I bought those flowers in Newton, MA!

For those of you who wonder about that name, it is the real name of a real Calla. It's purple on the inside and creamy on the rim. Just gorgeous. Coming soon to my site in your neighborhood...

Happy Green!   Anita

My exhibitions this Spring!

Hello. Welcome to Spring!

I hope we can say - this is end to snow - just a few teeny patches on the North side of my Street. My daffodils and tulips are trying mightily to emerge...

I have been busy - good busy - with plans to show my watercolors and pastels.

FIRST: Newton Open Studios is early this Spring - THIS WEEKEND April 6,7 Saturday and Sunday from 11-5. As well as a great extention to Open Studios on Friday evening April 5 from 6-8 (along with two new show openings at the New Art Center).

You can catch me painting at Open Studios this year - my venue is The New Art Center 61 Washington Park in Newtonville - #30 in the NOS Guide. Pick one up at a local Newton store or go to NewtonOpenStudios.org. My watercolors, pastels, Giclees, cards all will be there. I have done a lot of new work -some from my trip to Hawaii: Orchids, Bird of Paradise, Oriental lilies (from before my trip) - and in process, Yellow Hibiscus.

In addition, the Reception for the Newton Mayor's Show is Tues April 9 from 5-6. I have a watercolor in that show. All are invited.

The Reception for the Boston Mayor's Show is April 11 from 5-6 also. I have three paintings in that show. Really exciting. Both times the Mayors will be in attendance. They are both so supportive of local artists!

I will have space in a  Gallery opening in Lowell - The Arts League of Lowell has moved and the new space (307 Market Street) is almost ready, I'll have work there continually on a revolving basis. I'll keep you posted on dates for that.

I'll also have several Giclees in Putterham Grille starting on June 1. That's a fun restaurant in Chestnut Hill on W Roxbury Parkway. I'll let you know when the Reception for that is.

There will be more news, but if you come to any of these events - or all- I'd love it.

Enjoy the first scents of Spring and see flowers on paper in Newton this weekend!! Goodies there at the New Art Center too.

See you there.  Anita

Where I'm Showing

I thought I'd update folks living in MA where I'm showing currently and some of my future shows too.

I have been juried into the Concord MA Art Association's show, as I wrote before. If you want to catch the show, it ends mid February - so get going - it's worth it.

In addition I have four paintings in The Marblehead MA Art Association show, but that will be ending February 3.

You can see twelve of my archival Giclees in Brookline Bank in Newtonville, MA on Walnut Street. They're all framed and well priced looking for homes.

Beginning  February 14-March 15 I'll have 2 watercolors at The Arsenal Center for the Arts. (Watertown MA) This show is a collaboration between The Newton Arts Association and The Arsenal Center. The Opening Reception is February 28, probably early evening. More specific info as I know it.  I'll be there, so come visit if you're from MA!

I'll be letting everyone know when the Cambridge MA Art Association Award Show is. Plenty of time - not until May.

And Newton Open Studios is early this year - right in time for Mother's Day gifts - April 6 and 7.  I'll be showing my work in The New Art Center in Newtonville MA. I'll be letting you know much more info as time gets closer.

Whew! Pretty exciting for me - I hope all of you in the area can get to something!

I'll be uploading my new work soon...

Best to all,
Anita

Oriental and Asian Lilies

Hello - It's been a while since I wrote.  I wanted to show off one of my Lily paintings.

This is one of my newest florals. I bought some white Oriental lilies one day and HAD to do a watercolor. I loved painting them so much, that I'm doing a lilies series...all on beautiful handmade paper.

The second one in the series is of white Oriental lilies with Protea. I'm working on my third now. Lilies with Eucalyptus!

There are two types of lilies that you usually see in a flower market. One is a large, frilly, very scented flower. That's an Oriental lily. You might be familiar with the Stargazer - it's red/pink and very scented.  The whites are beautiful and more softly scented.

The other type is smaller, less 'fluted' and less scented. That's the Asian Lily.

Well, of course I wanted white frilly ones! And I wanted my paintings to have a soft color palette. Unfortunately there's no scent to them. I'll work on that part...

I'll upload them soon... hopefully something for you to look forward to!

Concord MA Juried Art Show

Hi! Hope everyone's New Year will be a healthy and happy one - and an artistic one!

I want to share exciting news. One of my pieces, a pastel I did this past year, was juried into the Concord MA Painting Show. The show begins with the RECEPTION on January 13 - this Sunday from 2-4 PM.

George Nick was the juror and he's quite accomplished. His work has hung in the MFA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY, the Hirshorn Museum in DC among others.

I don't know if he lives in Boston currently, but I know that he spent many years here and Boston is a large theme in his work. Especially his early paintings. If you look him up on Google, you can see many years of his work's evolution.

There are many fabulous paintings in this show - so come to the RECEPTION and see great art and say hello!

The Concord Art Association is located at 37 Lexington Street - essentially in Concord Center.

I emailed many of you from Facebook - but frankly never did that before - so I don't know if you'll get the email I sent. Please don't be irritated if you get two!

The painting that's in the show should be part of this Blog.

Here it is!
Cheers, Anita
